April 25, 2018 — Inspiring, uplifting and empowering, that’s how readers of Kindle Bestseller Confidence Confidential are describing this new anthology.
Developed by Marcia M Publishing House the book brings together the personal journeys and learning of girls and women from 13-70, including three generations of the same family. Each share with honesty their successes and challenges in order to help others.
The book has been compiled by British born Jamaican Marcia M Spence who lives in West Bromwich. Like many of her co-authors Marcia has experienced significant difficulties in life: – Marcia was sexually abused when she was five, witnessed domestic abuse at home, led a transient lifestyle and was the subject of racism as she grew up. Her personal relationships with family and partners have been troubled by their mental health issues, drug and alcohol addictions.
Despite this, Marcia had a successful 25-year career developing and delivering services for children and their families. Marcia then began to work for herself and became a dynamic broadcaster, newspaper columnist, community activist and women’s empowerment coach. She also wrote the first volume of her memoirs Geraldine’s Pearl.
Her health deteriorated however, and her writing caused her to face the struggles and emotional trauma she had been through. She was diagnosed with a chronic neurological/nervous system illness known commonly as ‘the suicide disease’.
Trigeminal Neuralgia is a disorder of the fifth cranial (trigeminal) nerve. This typically causes extreme sporadic, sudden burning or shock-like facial pains in the areas of the face where the branches of the nerve are distributed – lips, eyes, nose, scalp, forehead, upper jaw, and lower jaw. The intense flashes of pain can be triggered by vibration or contact with the cheek, brushing your teeth, eating, drinking, talking or being exposed to the wind. People with TN avoid social contact and daily activities such as eating and talking because they fear a repeat onset of the disease in public.
At this point, Marcia sunk to her deepest depths and although naturally outgoing, she began to isolate herself and stay at home. She went to her G.P with symptoms of post traumatic stress and panic attacks.
After accepting help from her three children and a number of professionals, Marcia has bounced back from what she describes as Rock Bottom.
‘I was re-made from scratch, creating a ‘six million-dollar Marcia’, a different creature, with Love, Power and a Sound Mind, a fearless woman. At 50, I now feel I am soaring to my greatest heights and embracing all of life.
I have had to find strength and use a multitude of instinctive survival strategies to overcome personal circumstances including divorce, single parenthood, chronic illness, lack of confidence and self-esteem. I believe that I have perfected ‘bounce-back-ability’ – the ability to bounce back, to keep on driving forward, not to accept the knock-backs but to learn from them and use them as stepping stones and this has become my art. My greatest achievement has been to finally and truly love myself and because of this, I refuse to accept less than I am worth. I was born a leader and I honestly believe that leaders are born. However, I also have the hope that leadership skills can be developed in any one who is determined enough.”
Marcia began her current publishing business in 2016 from her bed, as a hobby to help her get through her periods of ill health. Marcia M Publishing House now has over 30 books in hand to publish this year. Her authors are from the UK, Africa and the Caribbean.
Marcia is focused on building confidence and self-esteem in others and encouraging them to express themselves, to be creative and to tell their story either in the written or spoken word. Her publishing business specialises in memoirs and as she knows the potential emotions and vulnerability that can come with that, Marcia has a unique range of supportive professionals on board to help her writers and offers counseling as well as editing and design.
The book Confidence Confidential which is subtitled ‘A Collaboration of Perspectives’ is a great example of women from all types of backgrounds and industries coming together to share their stories.
